How to choose a FiveM server

What to check before you join: population, allowlist, language, history, uptime and reviews, and where to find each.

Joining a FiveM server costs nothing, but a bad fit costs an evening and sometimes a character you cared about. A few minutes of checking first makes the difference. Here is what to look at, in the order it saves the most time.

1. Decide what you want to play

“FiveM server” covers very different things: serious roleplay with strict rules, relaxed roleplay, freeroam, racing, drifting, minigames and more. Start from the type, not the name. The category filter on the server list narrows it straight away.

2. Check the population

A server needs enough players for the world to feel alive, and not so many that you queue to get in. Live counts show the number right now. The page for each server also shows a recorded history, so you can see whether it is busy every evening or only for an event. Servers listed as rising are gaining players compared with the day before.

3. Open or allowlist

An allowlist means you must be approved before you can play, usually through an application or a short voice interview. It keeps the community smaller and more committed. Open servers let anyone connect, which is easier to try but varies more in quality.

4. Language and region

Pick a server where voice chat is in a language you speak, and in a region close enough to you for a low ping. The country and language filters do both.

5. Look at how reliable it is

A server that is often down is a server you will often be unable to play on. Where the owner has verified the listing, the page shows recorded uptime. Player reviews and the owner's replies show how the staff behave when something goes wrong.

6. Compare before you commit

If you are torn between two or three, the comparison tool puts live players, recorded peak and average, uptime and review scores side by side, and gives you a shareable picture to send to friends. While you browse, the Compare button on any server card sets it aside.
